Develop a variety of original compositions, including:
- fiction and non-fiction;
- written, oral, visual and multimodal;
- descriptive, narrative, poetic, expository and persuasive; and,
- compositions that address identity, social responsibility and social agency (action).
Indicators for this outcome
| (a) | Develop original descriptive, narrative, poetic, expository and persuasive compositions that demonstrate understanding of genre-specific purposes, structures and language features (see Appendices D-H). |
| (b) | Experiment with various modalities (e.g., written, oral, visual, multimodal) to determine which one(s) best supports the purpose, audience and message of the composition. |
| (c) | Compose both fiction and non-fiction texts, thoughtfully considering the elements of each form, such as fact-based development in non-fiction and imaginative techniques in fiction. |
| (d) | Integrate multimodal elements (e.g., sound, image, movement, visual design) thoughtfully when composing in hybrid formats to enhance the delivery of the intended message. |
| (e) | Develop compositions that explore personal and collective identities, promote social responsibility and inspire social agency (action). |
| (f) | Revise compositions for clarity, coherence and impact, considering how effectively genre and form are aligned to audience and purpose. |
| (g) | Develop composition stamina by creating a longer-form text that sustains ideas, organization, purpose and audience engagement across the whole composition. |
| (h) | Combine genre-specific features (e.g., character development in narrative, rhetorical appeals in persuasion, vivid imagery in description) to shape the composition’s tone, structure and impact (see Appendices D-H). |
| (i) | Analyze how form, genre, audience and purpose shape the creative choices made throughout the composition process. |
