Analyze how authors/creators strategically integrate elements in multimodal texts to communicate ideas and engage the audience.
Indicators for this outcome
| (a) | Examine how audience interpretation of multimodal texts may shift based on individual experiences, context (e.g., platform, cultural moment, target audience) or familiarity with various modes. |
| (b) | Examine how multimodal elements influence audience engagement, emotional response or interpretation of perspectives, biases or calls to action (see Appendix K). |
| (c) | Analyze how specific design principles (e.g., colour, texture, size, proximity, repetition) guide viewer’s attention and emphasize key ideas (see Appendix K). |
| (d) | Analyze the ethical responsibility of creators (e.g., crediting authors/creators, respectful representations, considering privacy and consent) when selecting, editing or combining multimodal elements (e.g., images, sound, captions, pacing, layout, AI-generated elements), considering how these choices may shape audience interpretation, emotion or trust. |
| (e) | Evaluate how the interaction between elements (e.g., how audio complements visuals, how text layout affects pacing) either strengthens or detracts from the overall message (see Appendix K). |
| (f) | Investigate how creators layer modes (e.g., narration with archival footage, animation with text overlays) to enhance accessibility, emotional resonance, or complexity of message. |
| (g) | Analyze how mentor multimodal compositions position the audience (e.g., active participants, witnesses, learners, critics) through intentional design choices, such as framing, voiceover, interactive features or sequencing of elements. |
| (h) | Compare multimodal texts that address a similar topic to analyze how their composition choices affect meaning and engagement. |
