Engage with others in respectful, focused dialogue to foster critical thinking, negotiate interpretations and deepen comprehension.
Indicators for this outcome
| (a) | Pose purposeful, open-ended questions that challenge assumptions, uncover ambiguities or invite multiple interpretations of a composition, idea or theme (see Appendix I). |
| (b) | Justify interpretations or creative decisions with evidence from multiple sources (e.g., texts, prior discussions, personal experience) while engaging in thoughtful exchanges that test the strength and limitations of those interpretations. |
| (c) | Engage in a variety of collaborative discussion formats (e.g., small group jigsaw, role-based seminars, collaborative inquiry) to engage in focused dialogue and deepen understanding. |
| (d) | Co-construct meaning of complex texts by collaboratively exploring how different interpretations arise from varied lenses, contexts or textual elements and by negotiating shared or divergent understandings of complex texts. |
| (e) | Contribute to collaborative discussions by acknowledging others’ contributions, asking clarifying questions and connecting multiple perspectives. |
| (f) | Demonstrate respect for diverse perspectives by acknowledging differing opinions and lived experiences, using inclusive language and maintaining a constructive tone during disagreement. |
| (g) | Demonstrate awareness of group dynamics by encouraging contributions, mediating tensions and adapting communication to support productive, inclusive and critical dialogue. |
