ELA10.5
Examine how authors/creators strategically integrate elements in multimodal texts to communicate ideas and engage the audience.
Indicators for this outcome
| (a) | Explain how various modes (e.g., text, visuals, audio, movement) contribute individually and collectively to a text’s overall meaning (see Appendix K). |
| (b) | Explore how multimodal elements can emphasize or highlight perspectives, biases or calls to action. |
| (c) | Analyze how creators intentionally combine modes (e.g., visual imagery, sound effects, text, movement, narration) to serve distinct purposes, such as clarifying process, evoking emotion or emphasizing key ideas (see Appendix K). |
| (d) | Identify ethical considerations in multimodal compositions (e.g., crediting authors/creators, respectful representations, considering privacy and consent), including how images, sound, movement, text or design choices may influence audience emotions, understanding or trust. |
| (e) | Evaluate how the interaction of elements (e.g., how audio complements visuals, how text layout affects pacing) either strengthens or detracts from the overall message (see Appendix K). |
| (f) | Compare the impact of multimodal communication versus single-mode communication (e.g., purely text-based or purely visual) in terms of accessibility, emotional resonance or clarity of message. |
| (g) | Analyze how mentor multimodal compositions integrate elements effectively (e.g., alignment between message and media, pacing of visuals and audio, and transitions between modes and organization). |
