ELA10.15

Incorporate relevant, credible evidence into original compositions.

Indicators for this outcome
(a) Incorporate evidence (e.g., quotations, statistics, images, examples, expert opinions) that directly supports the main idea or claim, ensuring a clear and logical connection between the evidence and the argument.
(b) Introduce evidence with framing language that clarifies its relevance:
  • “According to…”
  • “As shared in the interview with…”
  • “The author suggests...”
  • “The situation shows...”
  • “The actions of the character demonstrate...”.
(c) Explain the function of each piece of evidence by explaining how it strengthens reasoning, anticipates counterarguments or deepens the central message, theme or argument.
(d) Balance the use of direct and indirect (e.g., paraphrasing) evidence to preserve originality and avoid over-reliance on source material.
(e) Apply different strategies for tracking and attributing sources (e.g., primary, secondary, print, scholarly, AI) depending on context:
  • In academic or research-based compositions, use appropriate citation styles (e.g., MLA for literary analysis, APA for informational texts).
  • In informal, creative or oral compositions, attribute ideas through oral acknowledgments, captions, credits or notes in accompanying materials.
(f) Revise compositions by improving the selection, integration and explanation of evidence to ensure stronger alignment between claims and supporting materials.
